Sparrow Comprehensive Stroke Center

At Sparrow Hospital, stroke care is a top priority and we have the track record to show it. We have not only been recognized by the American Stroke Association as a recipient of the “Get With The Guidelines” Gold Elite Plus award for our excellent care, but we are also the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in mid-Michigan. This means that not only do we provide the most complete care to our stroke Patients, but do so at the highest possible level.

It takes a highly specialized team to diagnose and treat strokes. Recognized by The Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, Patients at Sparrow are treated by emergency medicine, neurology, neurological surgery and neurointerventional  surgery Physicians who are specially trained in complex stroke care, and are available 24 hours a day. Vascular surgeons, radiologists, internal medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation Physicians, and specialty trained nurses are also part of the care team. This allows Sparrow to offer care for the most complex strokes. Our team treats Patients before, during, and after suffering a stroke through preventative, emergent and rehabilitative care.

With a stroke every minute counts, and we take that very seriously. Our acute stroke Patients who arrive via ambulance are quickly triaged in the emergency department where evaluation and imaging are done with the stroke team at the bed side. Patients are then quickly treated with intravenous clot-busting drugs before being rushed to the operation room to remove larger clots that require further intervention. As mid-Michigan's only comprehensive stroke center we also receive patients from other hospitals in the area to treat complex strokes. Working collaboratively with EMS and the community, we want you to know where to go if you are having a stroke. Time is brain; choose wisely, choose Sparrow.
