Updated information on COVID-19 and Flu: Restricted visitation is now in effect

Michigan Athletic Club

Sarah Nussbaum's day is filled with compliments: it's when people come through the front entrance of the Michigan Athletic Club and tell her, "I didn't want to come to the gym today but when I see you I want to be here."

Nussbaum loves her job and she says MAC members and guests can sense it. "We are the faces, we set the tone for what the members will see when they get in the club. We can make or break their time at the MAC."

The native of the Seychelle Islands off the coast of east Africa has made a science of picking up the emotional signals from members as she communicates with them and welcomes them to the MAC. "You catch that little thing in their voice that says who, what, when. You have to have a lot of emotional sensitivity to work with people."
